I'm sure it seems that way if you're in a right-leaning bubble, but trust me... there's a lot of really blind liberals who still kiss his ass, and he's a shoe-in for re-election. It's really sad.
Maybe most on the left aren't worshiping the ground he walks on anymore, but they still seem to be giving him the benefit of the doubt while turning a blind eye to his atrocious policies and giving him credit for things he had little or nothing to do with.
Excuse me, Bret, but you consider a drop from 70% to 41% in approval (with a parallel jump from near zero to 51% in disapproval) good numbers that indicate he's a 'shoe in'? He may not yet be the least popular (Jimmy Carter still holds that "crown") but he seems to fall into the category.
And, T.C. I think we have lost something in the world view in the past 3 years. Our "popularity" with foreign countries has steadily declined since WWII but we seem to be losing what little "fear factor" we had retained.
Not really? Man, even the left-leaning CBC - which I read and listen to by the way - reports the drop.
Copy/paste Douglas.
America's stature has indeed declined since WWII and that's a shame. I don't know what Americans need to do to recover its once proud image.
I don't think Obama is changing a thing. I read current events papers in three languages (French, Italian and some other language), and read what's being said in such countries including Germany and it doesn't "feel" like they're all that impressed with Obama.
I'm afraid you're right Douglas but people still flock to America's shores. So, there is, I reckon, a pulse still there. People still believe in the American experiment and experience.
I don't tend to agree, but perhaps the rest of the world is behind him.
ReplyDelete[It's impossible to tell, but there's a link at the end of my comment.]
ReplyDeleteYet, domestic polls show he's one of the least popular presidents.
ReplyDeleteRelations with Canada are neutral these days and Sarkozy's France strained. Not that much better than it was with Bush.
The poll is favorable towards Obama despite what amounts to an identical foreign policy to Bush.
Yet, domestic polls show he's one of the least popular presidents.
