Robert Pickton won't face a trial for the final 20 victims he murdered. It's awful but what was the likelihood the crown would get any convictions? As it stands, he's in jail for life with no chance for parole for 25 years. It's not perfect but at least it's something. It's just unfortunate guys like hime and Clifford Olsen can still haunt and harrass the families of the victims from jail with all their appeals for parole garbage.
The interesting side note to this is the role of criminalogist Dr. Kim Rossmo in all this. It sounds as though Rossmo, if givine proper support, would have nabbed Pickton a lot sooner but was stonewalled by his superiours. Surprise, surprise.
Here's Rossmo's geographic profiling formula.
Which made me think. Assuming superiours and politicians were in fact aware of Rossmo's work but still subsequently nixed him by demoting him (he had his own unit as a detective), are they complicit in murders that took place later? Their jobs is to protect the public and if they played petty politics to silence Rossmo then is it not reasonable to assert they at least have blood on their hands?
No worries though. They can later write a book saying how wrong they were and that "at the time" blah, blah, blah. Ever notice how politicians come years later to admit their mistakes when all along they knew it was wrong? I can see that happening for politicians who put innocent people in jail.
Evil pukes.
