We know a few things.
We know that earth is not flat as Bugs Bunny taught us.
We know that Canada is the second largest county in the world and Russia is the biggest.
We know the mainstream press are enemies of the people.
We also know that China is a big fat lying authoritarian communist county with a dismal human and animal rights abuse record as long as Crystal Gayle's hair.
We also know the Chinese hold $1 trillion in U.S. debt and have seen their economy sky rocket on the backs of Western progress and ingenuity as they copy and steal. When was the last time you heard someone say, 'I want something Made in China?" We still believe in Made in USA; Canada; United Kingdom; Italy; Germany; France; Japan; Holland; Australia; Sweden and so on.
Made in China conjures images of something cheap.
We know that China also bullies its neighbours and plays dirty on trade as we've seen over the yeas with the WTO.
We know China censors their own people and doesn't allow access to free information.
We know their leader looks like Winnie the Pooh and is now engaging in cheap propaganda as China laughably attempts to blame the U.S. for this disaster that originated IN CHINA.
We also know our sentient piece of lint posing as a Prime Minister admires China.
We thought we could make China more democratic and transparent through trade. That didn't happen. If anything, they played the open game to enriched themselves only to use it as leverage to challenge American might and if they needed to put the world in danger so be it.
What's a million lost lives in China anyway? It's not like they don't have experience with murder. Hello Mao!
This Wuhan virus thing is a chance for the West under American leadership to reset the game.
I'm under no delusion that the EU wouldn't undermine American policy that would do such a thing (Italy, preposterously enough, is reopening the Silk Road called 'Belt and Road' with China; a massive potentially enormously lucrative project signed by PM Conte who is, you guessed it, a liberal politician. The U.S., Japan and India are rightfully suspicious of this and Italy should be too especially given what just happened to their country. Part of this mess was because China didn't tell the world about the outbreak when it happened) but if there's ever been a time and wake up call to reconsider our economic relationship with China (and Iran for that matter) it's this.
In my view, America and Russia with the EU and India (the world's largest democracy and vitally under used and appreciated) falling into line should set their differences aside and team up to keep China and Iran in check. The United States will honour its debt. They have too long a proud history of never defaulting - hence why countries by their debt at low interest rates. Because America is reliable and powerful. It's not a paper tiger.
China is. They have the environmental and demographic problem (it remains for the most part agrarian while dealing with the disastrous one-child policy that may never fix itself). America has no long-term problems on this front and these are major advantages. America is also dynamic and innovative. The world's best flock to it. Russia is a nation that borders China and knows very well. Russia's culture and identity is closer linked to Europe (Moscow is closer to Europe after all) that beats to its own drum. It is rich in resources and remains a major military power with a strong scientific base.
The two must join forces.
They both have much to lose and gain in such a partnership.
Start by relying less on China for manufacturing. We can restart this industry. It's madness that they make our medicine. The leaders and companies that allowed this to happen should be shamed. China is not worth the head ache if they're going to cost us trillions in dollars - not to mention angst.
And America needs to wake the frick up about germ warfare. It's unacceptable to watch the world's mightiest nation falter around and scramble around like this. The CDC and FDA need to get off their damn bureaucratic high horse and get cracking on doing right by the American people on this issue.
It's time to make China a pariah. Let them know what they'll be missing and maybe - just maybe - they'll loosen up and knock it off.
And finally liberalize. Or at least act like a civilized nation that respects its friends and rivals alike and plays by the damn rules.
