I was watching a scene from the Manchurian Candidate (the original from 1962) where Ben Marco (Frank Sinatra) began to smoke on a train ride. He later shared a smoke with Jenny (Rosie), a lady he met on the train.
I'm surprised we haven't censored that scene given the times we live in. We're so busy trying to hide and rewrite parts of our history why not include films?
I recently saw two movies on NetFlix, ONCE, and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR. There was smoking in both. I could almost smell it and was repulsed. But definitely part of the movie. Should not be censored.
ReplyDeleteWe could, of course, just do what we do with other primary sources, find a convenient, out of the way dump site.
ReplyDeleteSorry. penandspindle, I didn't quite follow that.
ReplyDeleteSorry. That was just a public gripe sparked by lunacy, probably mine. I was suggesting that an alternative to censorship would be to throw away the whole offending 'source' in this case smoky film. After all, it is just old stuff ...
ReplyDeleteOh.... sarcasm.
ReplyDeleteJust have them drink orange juice.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my point is that they lit up in a public space. Good luck doing that today. People look at you like you have 15 nipples.
