In The News - A Bunch Of Derp

Please sing title to the tune of Glenn Miller's 'In the Mood."

..Governor Chris Christie (R-N.J.) warned that the state government won't be able to meet all of its pensions obligations.

Didn't Christie, lose about $261 million investing taxpayer money in Atlantic City?

Fiscal responsibility 2016!

"Prof Garrick-Bethell's new explanation is that four billion years ago - when the Moon formed from the debris thrown out by a huge impact between early Earth and a so-called planetoid - was much closer to the Earth. This meant tides were stronger.

"The Moon was [also] spinning much faster," he told BBC News."

Well I'll be darned. There was man made global warming back then too!

Other than that. Ban lemons. Or tax them.

"Our blind spot about guns."

"If we had the same auto fatality rate today that we had in 1921, by my calculations we would have 715,000 Americans dying annually in vehicle accidents.

Instead, we’ve reduced the fatality rate by more than 95 percent — not by confiscating cars, but by regulating them and their drivers sensibly.

We could have said, “Cars don’t kill people. People kill people,” and there would have been an element of truth to that. Many accidents are a result of alcohol consumption, speeding, road rage or driver distraction. Or we could have said, “It’s pointless because even if you regulate cars, then people will just run each other down with bicycles,” and that, too, would have been partly true.

Yet, instead, we built a system that protects us from ourselves. This saves hundreds of thousands of lives a year and is a model of what we should do with guns in America."

How about Our blind spot about rationalism?

***

Heard someone ask how come you rarely - if ever - see Hamas launching rockets into Israel?

Because if Hamas saw people recording their actions they'd kill them.

Duh.

***

Do I think Stephen A. Smith, in discussing Ray Rice's suspension for hitting his wife, should have been suspended for saying that women shouldn't incite men to violence?

Shit no.

So if a strong woman is beating down on a weaker man it's not okay to hit back?

But how else would Bruce Willis get the bad guys?

Women ON TV think cutting a man's penis is funny. Apparently that's okay because we had it coming for...well you know the story.  Those women are cunts in my book.

What? They are. Not cunts? Check out Jezebel and see the inane mass of derpy stupidity that make up that hideous herd and get back to me.

I don't want to spend more time than I have to talking about dumbass feminists. If you want more here are a couple of links:

Lots of striking going on in Canada. Let's see B.C. teachers are unhappy. The government is giving Canadian families $40 per day for as long as the strikes lasts. How nice. The benevolent government handing back after-tax dollars back to people. So weird.

Meanwhile here in Montreal cops are acting unprofessionally as they don camouflage pants, caps while vandalizing patrol cars with those awful 'syndicats' stickers.

You know where I stand.

When cops can retire at 40 with full pensions, you know there's a fricken problem.

Hm. The IMF is calling on Canada to cut income taxes and add a carbon tax. For a petrol state. Great. Real smart.

See Australia for results.

"...the IMF says gasoline should be taxed at about $0.55 (U.S.) a litre instead of the current 36 cents, and road diesel at about $0.64 per litre, instead of the current 42 cents."

They make it sound so...simple.

"...Parry admitted, however, that governments haven’t been very successful at communicating the “revenue neutral” message and that voters have been skeptical"

That's because there's no such thing as "revenue-neutral." Just like Obamacare was never cost-neutral or whatever it was they lied about.

"The IMF calculates phasing in the carbon taxes to the levels it suggests would increase Canada’s gross domestic product by 1.4 per cent, reduce carbon emissions by 15 per cent and diminish deaths from air pollution by 25 per cent, the latter mostly from reducing coal use."

There it is again. What is it with this fetish of driving growth through taxes? It's nonsense.

On it went.

Man Sues Ronaldo Over CR7

"In a complaint filed Monday in Rhode Island federal court, 43-year-old fitness enthusiast Christopher Renzi said he had received letters from lawyers for the Danish company JBS Textile Group demanding he give up the trademark because it had “imminent plans” to enter the U.S. market with Ronaldo's CR7 underwear.

So fucking what?

Patent, copyright, and even trademarks.

A bit silly if you ask me.

How can you patent creativity?

CR7 is not exclusive to Ronaldo and it shouldn't be.

Ronaldo's lawyer: "You could use CR6 or CR8. Or, if you prefer, DR7 or BR7. There are options. Why do you have to be difficult?"

Hamas Acts Of War

B-b-but. The tunnels are food!

And killing Jews.

Hello. Hamas perpetually is in 'act of war' position. Tunnels are the perfect analogy for cowardly vermin for terrorists like Hamas.

Being Pretty And Smart Is Not Fair

You can't be pretty and be smart so the progressive new meme goes.

From Reason in link (good comments to go along with it):

  • [Campbell Brown] is a good media figure because of her looks, but she doesn’t seem to know or understand anything about teaching and why tenure matters," education activist and historian Diane Ravitch told The Washington Post. "I know it sounds sexist to say that she is pretty, but that makes her telegenic, even if what she has to say is total nonsense.”
  • "[Campbell Brown] and her wealthy supporters seem to think that if teachers could be fired for any reason at any time, student achievement in high-poverty schools would miraculously soar," union leader Karen Magee writes, taking the utmost care not to hyperbolize or misrepresent the views of her opponents.
  • "It’s a good thing when professionals can’t simply be fired on a boss’s whim," argues Salon's Gabriel Arana. The piece makes a tortured case (even by Salon standards) that the quality of a teacher doesn't affect student achievement all that much. And "figuring out who’s a good teacher is pretty difficult."
Ooo, ahh, the ad hominens come easily, huh?

It's not what she's saying at all. But leave to statists to go derp. If a teacher sucks fire their sorry ass just like in any job. My wife is a teacher and admits it's a problem in the profession.

Matt Damon? Really? That was painful watching him try to talky-smartz. It was Justin Trudeau-like.

***

True story. Years ago in University a friend of ours handed a piece of paper with drawings on them that happened to depict me and a buddy. Basically, the person drew us as a couple of 'I-talian stallions.' I didn't take offense because if it was meant to be so, I just figured the guy was an asshole.

My memory of the details of this event are sketchy but the "artist" (who went by the nickname Gooch for some reason) happened to be gay. So he could have had a secret crush on us or he was plain mocking us. I tend to lean the latter because of an incident in another class I had with him.

The professor handed out our exams and I asked him how he did. He proudly showed a high mark - I forget what it was. Then the prof gave me mine and Gooch asked in-kind my grade. Not one to put too much stock into - well, anything - I showed him. His reaction was stunning as it was insulting.

"You, got a higher grade than me?"

Right then and there I knew this was an arrogant, cocksucker. I don't remember what my vocal response was but I do recall privately smiling to myself with a 'fuck you dick."

In the end, he was judging me on my looks just like those people attacking Campbell Brown. Nothing more. I didn't get into any debates with him nor do I recall being particularly vocal in any class so in hindsight, it was nothing more than an example of a person superficially judging a book by its cover.

Palestinians Lash Out At Hamas

It's about time Palestinians lash out at Hamas.

And no the following is not an acceptable position to take:

Yes, Hamas uses innocents as human shields, but Israel blocks the job market!

Hamas is evil ON ITS OWN.

Glad to see the people starting to understand this. Better to hitch your ride with Israel than those murderous manipulators.

Schools and shelters my ass. They build those to put human shields in them.

Quote Of The Day

Vandana Shiva:

“Scientific missions colluded with religious missions to deny rights to nature. The rise of mechanical philosophy with the emergence of the scientific revolution was based on the destruction of concepts of a self-regenerative, self-organising nature which sustained all life. Just as technology changes seed from a living, renewable resource into mere raw material, it devalues women in a similar way.”

Face.

Palm.

Problem is. Stay at home mom's looking for a sense of purpose tend to believe this nuttiness. She's a nice mix of Western derp and Indian kookiness.

Vandana truly is a nasty piece of work. She'd rather have poor people starve than have them eat bio-engineered food. Fucking quack.

Technology isn't good unless it's accepted by Gaia.

Mid-East Tensions Higher Than Normal

And the Americans aren't helping.

The Israeli's see John Kerry as a "dangerous imbecile."

Don't blame them. They probably think the same of his boss.

Hamas are a bunch of death cultists and it's about time Israel takes care of business. With or without the Americans.

***

Jonas at The National Post nails it - as usual:

"Two wrongs don’t make a right, but trying to stop an ongoing attack isn’t a wrong. It’s an individual’s right and a government’s duty. The law of self-defence kicks in at the point of the latest threat: It entitles even criminals to stop attacks on themselves. To equate the violence required to stop Hamas with the violence of Hamas’ initial assault is moral illiteracy — or would be, if it didn’t manifest itself so often among morally hyperactive groups and individuals."

That's my position. For all of history, nations were allowed to defend themselves. Yet, Israel is suddenly held to a different standard? Not only that, they must take the attacks and take the high road and consider "proportional" retaliation?

It's asinine.

How about this:

For you enablers and apologists for Hamas - a terrorist organization funded by Iran - how about the Palestinians and Arabs (who allegedly - cough - care for their plight) attempt to match the success of Israel? Hm?

Sure, they're not perfect but seems to me if they s have a shred of dignity and decency as well a sense of enterprise, they'd, you know, exert energy into creating a viable entity. Instead, they're too busy busting balls lobbing rockets aimlessly into Israel and incoherently looking to throw 'Jews into the sea.' Their impractical attitude have consistently squeezed them out of major concessions from Israel that could have been positive for Palestine.

That's what a society with any real balls would do.

Need a visual? Here.

And I'm supposed to take them seriously?

Please.

***

At the moment they're destructive and not constructive while Israel continues to putter along in a sea of madness. Seems to me if they would just shift their thinking a tad their lives would be so much better. Israel's number one fear and concern is security. Keep threatening it and they will not relent.

Like any nation would.

I can't stress this enough.

In any event, the mere fact progressives (remember when that wench Marois marched along with Palestinian protestors?) side with Palestine should be enough for any person of sound mine to do the opposite.

I'm so sick of this shit.

Do You Have The War On Drugs Up Your Ass?

Wow.

In Soviet Russia, Communism Nourishes Water

Babbling Paternalist Incoherence

Hm.

Not sure what Eleanor Norton is going on about here. That's the difference between Parliamentary and separation of powers government ergo the people don't have the right to know what goes on with their government?

Know the problem, right? In addition to abject ignorance and arrogance, elected officials seem to think they own the government and the people.

From The Washington Examiner:

"It was, to put mildly, a significant departure from the more traditional liberal stance that openness and transparency are must to prevent abuses of power by government officials. Instead the leading advocate for statehood for the District of Columbia literally argued that even the congressional committee charged with oversight shouldn't be asking questions in the first place. Sans Politesse

I'm in training to participate in a duathlon in September (a duathlon is a triathlon without the swimming). It's a medium sized race - 6km run and 30 km bike ride. I run about 10k and cycle 40-60k on average as part of the training. Anyway...) and usually take my runs on the street behind my house. It's convenient, has a bike path long enough to satisfy my needs.

Since March, I've been left stunned at the general lack of patience and awareness of drivers (which is pretty standard in Quebec) by drivers at intersections. It's mind-boggling. They'd rather risk hitting you than wait two seconds to let you cross. I know, I've been nearly hit four times by assholes so far and have had to deal with numerous more encounters of cars simply not following the basic law (never mind etiquette) of pedestrians get the right of way. Nah. They just barrel through walk-ways and barely do their stops. The worst driver is the one who sees you coming but is so anxious you can see them trying to decide if they should go or wait. More often than not, they go for it - because they're impatient buffoons with places to go as if they're CEO's. The only position they have is CEO of being selfish pricks - and I have to alter my path usually by going behind them pulled off my path and into the street. If I had burn rays, I'd burn their tires with my burn ray eyes.

Absolutely incredible what I see on the path.

Moreover, if that nightmare is not enough you should see the freak show on the path itself. I don't know, but what's the percentage of people never hearing about "KEEP RIGHT"? Too often, I find myself gesturing (educating) to people to switch lanes. It's inexcusable. If you want to take up running or biking to reduce the fat around your ass, the least you can do is fucking read up on the rules of the road and lessen the fat between your ears. Fucktwads.

Man, the shit I see on the path. Stupid kids sitting on the sidewalk with legs stretched out on the path, thoughtless mothers coming to a full stop on the path to attend to their baby in a carriage when there's a bloody sidewalk right next to them, inconsiderate families taking a leisurely walk hogging the path in both directions without paying any attention to the fact it's a bike path, people stopped on the path to chat (I really loathe these people and secretly hope one day a biker barrels into them), and people walking their dogs barely keeping a tight leash.  One priceless, sparkling snowflake got off her bike and parked it in the middle of the path without a care in the world that I was fast coming on to her. I'm surprised no one has tried to set up a BBQ on the path.

And no, it's not a 'do what you feel like' path. It's a BIKE path. You should treat it as you would cars on a street.

So don't be like the impolite idiots I described here in this post. Be informed and considerate. And for for the love of God, KEEP RIGHT!

Nibali Wins Tour de France

Italy's Vincenzo Nibali won the 2014 edition of the Tour de France. It was quite the tactical and expertly executed performance by Nibali. Absent of a defensive mindset, he was aggressive when he needed to be and refused to give an inch especially in the mountain stages.

With the win, Nibali joins a very select group of cyclists becoming only the sixth rider in history to win each of the Grand Tours. The others are Eddie Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Jacques Anquetil, Felice Girmondi, and Alberto Contador.

Though Nibali pretty much was in control of the tour from the early stages, there were some exciting moments through out the race from Germany's Tony Martin dominating the Time Trial, to Alexander Kristoff of Norway powering his way to two stage wins as well as Lithuania getting its first ever stage win thanks to Ramunas Navardauskas, to New Zealand racer Jack Bauer's heartbreaking collapse seconds from a stage win, all the way to the battle between Jean-Christophe Peraud, Thibault Pinot, Alejandro Valverde and American Tejay van Garderen for a podium finish. All ensured it was an exciting race. Peraud and Pinto claimed the top two spots after each having beaten the Spaniard Valverde in the TT.

The reemergence of French riders was another exciting part of the overall race. Note a Frenchman has not won the Tour since Hinault in 1985 but with this young crop the drought may end soon.

The performances have been encouraging. Along with two stage wins at the TdF, three French riders placed in the top 10. Moreover, Pierre Rolland finished 4th at the grueling Giro d'Italia with France claimed three stage wins there.

Peraud's second place finish is a wonderful story. At 37, the former mountain biker saw this year as his last chance to win a podium while having endured numerous bad fortune including crashing out twice last year and breaking his collar bone. He's a classic case of perseverance paying off.

Last, been reading some comment that the abandonment of Chris Froome and Alberto Contador all but gave the win to Nibali.

Horse shit.

First, that's racing. Part of it is to stay on your bike and that takes skill. Sorta like how Gretzky avoided injury during his career. While he had protection from other players (Semenko), he was also an intelligent hockey player who knew when and how to place himself. Same in cycling and for that, Nibali is incredibly sharp; probably the best.  Second, it's a part of sports as a whole. Teams always lose key players. Depth and execution then takes over. Again, Nibali had that in spades having earned the nickname 'The Break Away Killer' for his ability to break away from the peloton with complete power. Third, he was already leading when they left and musing on about what it would have happened later in the climbing stages is moot. In any event, Nibali finished 2nd overall in the Mountain classification given the impression even Contador would have been severely challenged if not beaten Nibali was that good. Same with the Time Trial where Nibali placed 4th.

His victory was an awesome display of a cyclist combining all the skills that make a great rider from mountain climbing, to attacking, to tactics to time trial sprinting as well as showing abilities in the cobble stage.

Above all, Nibali did not benefit from having a powerhouse team (like Movistar and Sky) to back him up. His Astana team mates did an incredible job of supporting him but when it came to the final crunch kilometers, Nibali was on his own. That alone is a great measure of his talent.  He was a throwback to great riders climbing and racing in solid solitude unlike the carefully manufactured individual champions by teams of today.

To detract from his victory because two riders abandoned is absurd.

Quick word on the only two Canadian riders Svein Tuft and Christian Meier

Though Tuft finished 130th, his performance in the time trials was outstanding as he placed 15th.  Meier ended in 121st spot.

Lotsa EU Civil Servants

"The 170,000 employees is nearly twice as large as the British army and is greater than the number of people working at eight Whitehall departments including the Treasury and the Home Office.

The figure included nearly 45,000 people on 1,000 "expert groups", which advise on legislation, such as the Lifts Directive Working Group, the Mineral Water Expert Group and the Expert Group on Flavourings."

That's a lot of jobs that need justifying.

Expert Group on Flavorings?

A progressives wet dream.

All for the children I reckon.

New York Times A Laggard

Yawn. The statist loving New York Derps Times is sticking its chest out about demanding the Feds legalize marijuana.

It's a big, bold move indeed for a newspaper so thoroughly invested in progressivism.

But.

They're hardly being the visionary trailblazers. In fact, they only came out because it was safe to do so as it looks like the trend is clearly heading towards legalization.

Sorry, NYT you can act cool to your base but others beat you to it.

They Know

Just like they knew Bengahzi had nothing to do with a video. Or that Americans were not gonna get to 'keep their plans'.

"Like the rest of the world, the U.S. government appeared to have been taken aback last month when Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, fell to an offensive by jihadis of the Islamic State that triggered the collapse of five Iraqi army divisions and carried the extremists to the threshold of Baghdad.

"A review of the record shows, however, that the Obama administration wasn’t surprised at all.
In congressional testimony as far back as November, U.S. diplomats and intelligence officials made clear that the United States had been closely tracking the al Qaida spinoff since 2012, when it enlarged its operations from Iraq to civil war-torn Syria, seized an oil-rich province there and signed up thousands of foreign fighters who’d infiltrated Syria through NATO ally Turkey."

President Nothing

Mark Steyn comes up with the goods:

"...Just to reiterate what happened here: A barbarian regime seized an American's family and jailed them - and throughout their imprisonment no one in the United States Government did anything and neither the President nor his Secretary of State said a word. The British and Canadians helped, and the Italians sent a government plane and the deputy foreign minister. The Pope had time for the Wani family, but not President Fundraiser. As I wrote two months ago:
On Saturday, President Obama issued a Tweet in observance of International Anti-Homophobia Day:
'"No one should face violence or discrimination—no matter who they are or whom they love." —President Obama'
Fine words, but, as is often the case with this man, utterly empty. An American citizen is about to have his life ruined because of "whom they love". Daniel Wani suffered discrimination from the US Government because he fell in love with Meriam Ibrahim. And, because of that discrimination, he now faces violence from the Sudanese Government, which presently has his entire family - his wife and unborn child, and his two-year-old son - shackled in Khartoum...
Those children are American citizens, and this is not a Sudanese news story but an American one.
But it helps sometimes to stop and listen carefully to all the things a president isn't saying, because they tell you a lot - about your rulers and their priorities, and how it's likely to go should you ever need them to be there for you. And the silence of Barack Obama throughout the long months of one American's ordeal is very eloquent.

I thank the Pope and the Italian Prime Minister and his colleagues, and I wish Daniel Wani and his family a safe journey home to Manchester."

Paronia Strikes Deep

This is such fucking bull shit it makes bull shit smell like lavender by comparison.

Passenger Bettina Bathe told CTV Toronto the incident unfolded not long after takeoff when a flight attendant came by to pass out headsets.

"He basically just tore a strip off her, explaining how expensive the cigarettes are here in Canada, he hates Canada," Bathe said.

"Then he said, with great expression using his hands, 'I just want to bomb Canada.'"
Following procedure, the flight was then diverted back to Toronto's Pearson International Airport, about 45 minutes into the flight, escorted by two U.S. fighter jets.

How's that for security theater?

CNN was all, like, serious and talking in serious tones about this utterly stupid, fucking occurrence.

Consensual Choice Is Not Illegal Action

The anatomy of progressive action ruining lives.

The Social purity movement in the late 19th century sought to:

"abolish prostitution and other sexual activities that were considered immoral according to Christian morality. Composed primarily of women, the movement was active in English-speaking nations from the late 1860s to about 1910, exerting an important influence on the contemporaneous feminist, eugenics, and birth control movements. The movement helped to shape feminist views on prostitution. '
Basically, they took a profession that filled a demand between consensual adults and made it illegal. Women who owned brothels were landowners with influence as well as protected by local sheriffs. By kicking them out of their jobs, the busy bodies destroyed their lives and banished prostitutes to a life of violence and crime under control of pimps. Moreover, prostitutes not only lost protection of law enforcement but spend part of their lives languishing in a jail cell.

That's what the movement accomplished.

The pattern is obvious. Make illegal something that shouldn't be illegal in the first place and create criminals of free people making free choices. The monopoly of force held by the government leads to senseless incarceration to even death.  Alcohol, smoking, marijuana, or prostitution. People should not be in prison for choosing to use or engage nor should there be taxes in any of them.

And nothing is safe. Sodium, sugar, whatever. Bureaucrats don't need science to outlaw any of these because A) fuck you that's why and B) it's for your own good. So let's be clear: SCIENCE DOES NOT BACK THE GOVERNMENT UP WHEN IT COMES TO CERTAIN FOOD BANS.

Shadow Parents The Future

Okay. So I'm good at this prognosticate game.

For years I demanded (sarcastically) the government just assign each family a bureaucrat to run our affairs. That way the fucking idiots could tell us if we're buying the right food, tidying up the house, and taking care of our kids "right."

Yeah, well. It's not so funny anymore.

"Imagine the very worst home a child could grow up in: No food in the fridge, parents strung out on drugs, the children covered with scabs and beaten regularly. You would want someone to step in and save the kids.

And then there's Scotland.

Scotland wants to treat all families as potentially abusive and appoint a "named person" (that is, a guardian) as soon as the child is born and up through age 18 to oversee the parenting. This "shadow parent" would be empowered by the government under the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act, which will take effect in 2016.

And when some dipshit, clutch pearling left-wing socialist nanny-state, busbody asshole proposes this here I will hold each and every one of you accountable for when (ok, if) it happens.

When I say 'you' I mean every single one of you thoughtless jerkoffs who always thought it a good idea the government involve itself in our affairs from cigarettes to sugary drinks as if it's actually sound, effective policy.

All you've done is consent to them controlling your life.

Idiots.

/over to New York Times comment community.

Guilt And Shame

A favorite tactic of the President.

They sat we - the West - are nation of laws.

Or are we?
"I don’t care if it’s legal, it’s wrong.

(U.S. companies) are essentially renouncing their American citizenship so that they can ship their profits overseas to avoid paying taxes, even as they benefit from all the advantages of being here in America."
I see.

Legal smhmegal. Follow MY NARRATIVE!

Male Privilege

There you go.

So we're not being demanding after all when we ask for a blow job.

It's the least she can do, no?

I know. Check you misogyny at the door Mister!

Right after you blow me?

Mary Poppins' Pay Below Poverty Line

From Funny Or Die. Mary Poppins ostensibly arguing for an increase in minimum wage.

Problem is, and she says so in the video but likely isn't aware of it, minimum wage is not the problem.

Government taxes are.

Taxes eat wealth and income.

You can have a $30 minimum wage and the government will increase taxes accordingly to make sure it gets its cut.

It's Okay When We Do It

Know the outrageous lie the IRS is pimping about "lost emails"?

Yeah.

Imagine if this was a corporation saying this to Congress.

The jackals in the media and hyenas in the government would be howling and yelping like a pack of coyotes.

Yes. Emails were "lost". Give me a fucking break.

Confused Thinking

Maybe I'm stupid, but progressives as pro-choice, right?

Okay.

So. This girl and her boyfriend - two budding idiotic criminals - decide out of free choice and will, to invade a man's house and give him a beat down.

So, doesn't the victim pull out a gun. The boyfriend runs out like the coward piece of shit he his leaving his pregnant girlfriend behind. She escapes but the old man follows her and kills her despite her pleas about being pregnant.

So. Obviously, this man will probably be convicted of murder because the law is clear that you can't kill someone - even a low-life criminal - who no longer poses a reasonable threat (though I always was uncomfortable with this. To me, if you break and enter to commit a crime you knowingly and freely do so thus all bets are off. Why, an 'all bets are off' law should be tabled! They beat him, broke his collarbone, robbed him so to me, he had every right to take out the trash). Anyway, he shoots her in cold blood mumbling to the effect 'she's better off dead'. Personally, I think the guy just complicated his life by talking so freely about but I understand him.

It's tragic indeed. But in the end, let's not distract ourselves from the fact that she and her bonehead dickfriend were the authors of their own demise.

He'll likely be charged. However, I don't believe Gus Adams should do one day in jail.

But distract we will. And the progs are suddenly concerned about the death of an unborn child.

Apparently, in this scenario the loss of an unborn child should be mourned, but when a woman decides to get an abortion to kill a baby, that's okay.

Economic Patriotism Is Irrational Thinking That Can't Be Manufactured

Speaking in Los Angeles Thursday, President Obama touted"economic patriotism," which apparently involves keeping companiesheadquartered here by fiat.

Obama, I get the feeling, just talks prog-shit to rally his left-wing base. No man in that position can be so frivolous. Of course, the high cost of doing business that force corporations out is rooted in, you guessed it, government regulation.

Companies are a-nationalist and a-patriotic as they ought to be. They have to do right by their business. Period. If the same worker can produce widgets at $5 per hour in Central America but costs $25 (before payroll taxes and pension obligations) here. Hello. The second one goes, the others must follow or else they run the risk of going out of business.

Next on the list.

Personal salary caps. Caps on capital and caps on wealth.

But first. Equal Opportunity and Outcome legislation.

Oh, laugh.

It's coming.

***

Left-wingers think you can "manufacture" and "dictate" the direction and patterns in an economy from the top. They think this because they believe such nonsensical slogans as "nobody got rich on their own" or "pay your fair share" and my personal favorite derp "taxes are the price for civilization" (have a conversation with people who believe this. The economic and financial illiteracy runs deep)  and so the natural flow of an economy comes from bureaucratic policies.

They're communists.

GM: Needs More Bail Out

Most sober minds saw this coming a mile (or kilometer) away.

Bad companies with products the market don't want should be allowed to whither. Not be saved. No matter how big. The cost of deferring the bankruptcy of a company will likely cost an economy more down the road.

Harper Made To Upset Progressives

This made my day:

Gun owners may face less red tape, new responsibilities under proposed law

Mostly because it'll make the prog-moonbats go bathshit crazy. For example:

"JUST more Prehistoric Harper Thinking
You have to love the ridiculousness of a hunter with a high power rifle and scope determined to kill an animal for some twisted form of pleasure and call it SPORT"

If projection was an Olympic sport progressives would win gold every time.

Anyway. The CBC threads is filled derp.

Coming Soon To North America

Remember when I predicted that the Super hospital in Montreal was going to be nothing more than a super corrupt, incompetent mess? That wasn't hard to predict at all. One need just look at the pattern of how we do things and voila! You too can wear Madame Claire Voyance's hat!

On our current trajectory, all one has to do is listen to the subtle cues from the likes of Drama Trudeau, Freeland, Paperclip Warren (who makes Obama look like a disciple of Bastiat) and other assortment of pseudo-populists with deep pockets to know they will come to raid the private sector. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that we have low growth, high debt and no money to cover all the free shit we insist on giving people.

First, it will be private sector pensions (RRSPs, 401ks also) that will be raided. Next, well...just read what the Krazy Koreans are up to:

"To solve structural problems the economy is now facing, and to maintain fiscal balance in the long term, it's critical to seek expansionary fiscal and monetary policies, even at the risk of running a short-term fiscal deficit."
Choi says the earnings of local exporters are not flowing into households, which is stifling domestic demand.

To address the issue, the government laid out plans to provide tax incentives to companies that raise wages and increase dividend payments.
(Korean)
"Korean companies' dividend payout ratio is the lowest among OECD nations. That's affecting the local capital market and keeping corporate earnings from flowing into households."

The government, on the other hand, will tax companies that shy away from investment, wage increases or dividend payments in favor of hanging onto excessive cash reserves.
The government also plans to accelerate regulatory reforms, especially those linked to bolstering the nation's real estate market, by giving home buyers easier access to mortgage loans.
The set of measures is based on the new economic team's revised growth outlook for this year.

It cut its growth forecast to 3.7 percent, down zero.4 percentage points from an earlier projection.

Terrible.

Just awful.

Maddening.

Frightening.

Once the government enters the final phase of taking over the economy, it will be curtains for the West as we knew it in terms of an advanced, innovative and efficient economic entity. Human kind's mightiest thus far.

Yes. I'm calling it here now. It will be the fault of progressives.

"I Think I Just Became Pro-Dictatorship"

Deep down inside, progressives like to be controlled. They love control. They crave it. It's the essence of their whole animist world view. Sure they'll contort themselves into all sorts knots saying they're democratic and pro-liberty, but their actions and thinking say otherwise.

In the end, they submit to a greater authority: Top Men. And they want YOU to submit as well. How dare Hobby Lobby not give free birth control! Release the government hounds!

Remember. Over birth control:

This Twitter comment really says it all.

Let me get this straight. They're irrational love for a politician - in this case Elizabeth Warren leads to demagoguery and thus acceptance of a dictatorship?

HEROES! NYPD Kills Man For 'Untaxed Cigarettes

Sickening.

It's to that point in the USA folks. Criminalize something stupid and they will kill you for engaging in it.

Good job guys. Take a bow.

Consider these stats.

In other words, cigarette taxes fuck the poor. And when the poor need their fix and can't afford the tax, they go get it in the black market. When they go black, they're considered "criminals" and get arrested, thrown in prison or worse.

That's progressivism in all their compassion.

Remember. Whenever our socialist-progressive comes up with a policy meant to help people, the opposite happens.

But hey. Conform. If you don't want to get arrested then don't commit a crime. So easy they're outlook.

Comment Of The Day

"Philosophers" wrestle with Weird Al:

"My two cents: yes, he is over-committed to the authorial voice here, but it is also his, and it is the voice of most people sharing the post, none of whom ever pull back from the idea that grammatical and usage mistakes are unquestionably emblems of supposedly lesser intelligence. He never makes fun of the people making fun of grammar mistakes, he develops authority through prescriptivist mansplaining. Please let me know if you see people sharing this video in the belief that it actually makes fun of the grammar police. Of course, I will be teaching with the video in my writing AND disability studies classes. The video is a perfect way to get into not just all the "crime" that words like "moron" have empowered (including the eugenics that still encourages people to say "get out of the gene pool") but it also perfectly shows how we have ALWAYS used arbitrary grammar and usage rules to segregate, stigmatize, and harm non-normative minds and bodies. When the precursors to our modern literacy tests were being developed at Ellis Island, it was Henry Goddard using them to reinforce his invention of the term "moron" as a way to dial back the humanity of specific racial and ethnic groups. "Literacy" has always used disability in these ways.

I think that what Shelley is objecting to is not necessarily the placement of the video on this site, but the uncritical placement of the video on the site. Most of the time, as Jon said, people are totally OK with using insults that derogate disability. Here, Shelley is saying it isn't OK on this blog to ignore the history. I agree."

Well, I. It's uh...what da.../scratches head while dropping cigarette from lips.

It's Not Secularism

I don't think these people understand what secular means.

Hobby Lobby is not a symbol of church colliding with state. It's irrational to think this and, typical, shows how the left has a superficial understanding of history.

That a private corporation doesn't want to comply to a coerced government action is not an example of secularism eroding.

Quebecers should remember the PQ's distorted understanding of "secularism" with their charter.

(Centralized) Quote Of The Day

What is it with left-wingers, commies and their ilk, and their fascination with mass transit and trains?

Mass transit, mass gulags.

It's their shtick.

Comment:

"Trains are the perfect metaphor for what progressivism has become. Everyone has to ride the same vehicle, moving at the same speed, unable to deviate from the laid down tracks and according to the time schedules set by experts. "

In Canada (and Quebec in particular), we're masters of slowing down those who excel to the pace of the rest.

Giro Or Tour? Which Is Tougher?

As far as I can remember cyclists have debated whether Le Tour de France or Giro d'Italia - two majestically legendary races - is tougher. As a whole, Giro gets the nod notably because of the tougher climbs and unpredictable weather. It's definitely grittier as the BBC notes.

Like in soccer, volleyball and basketball, Italian cycling fans tends to be more knowledgeable and passionate about the sport - so much so they're known to be aggressive as riders pass by. People show up on race day because they love cycling. In France, they entice people by giving out stuff to get them to come out.

And last but not least, the food is better. I'm not surprised by this having traveled in both countries. Always felt you could find better food easier in Italy.

See the list for the toughest climbs in cycling here.

Here are some quotes:

"Italian food is arguably the most popular ethnic food in the world. And while most of what's sold outside of Italy would be barely recognized by an Italian, people all over the world love it. Can anyone say the same about French cooking? Years ago, after so many complaints by riders in LeTour (who must stay in hotels and eat in places chosen by the race organizer) the TdF organization brought ITALIAN chefs in to oversee meal preparation. Bikeraceinfo.

"There might be more spectators on the roadside of Le Grand Boucle in any given year, but when you look at TV or photos of the Giro you'll see thousands cheering for their heroes. More of them have ridden their bicycles to their choice viewing spot in many cases. The crowds lining the roads in France are quite often made up of foreigners rather than French folks. France seems only to take interest in cycling during July." Bikeraceinfo.

Does LeTour have anything as tough as Passo Mortirolo with 12.4 kilometers with an average grade of 10.5% and maximum of 18.5% or Tre Cime with almost 8 kilometers at an average of more than 9% and a maximum grade of 17%? Compare TdF's fearsome Col du Tourmalet, 17 kilometers and average grade of 7.4% with max of 10% to the Giro's Passo Stelvio, 25 kilometers averaging 7.2% and a max of 14%. I have ridden all of these climbs during my 20+ years of cycling in Italy and France and can without fear of contradiction—the Italian climbs are generally more difficult. Bikeraceinfo.

La Corsa Rosa is a smaller affair overall than Le Grand Boucle. I remember seeing LeTour when the official cars were from Peugeot and official water from Perrier, but it has become a multi-national, corporate affair dominated by Nestle, Nike and the like. Il Giro rarely gets the huge, international corporate sponsors. Instead, the Giro's start village promotions are smaller and mostly Italian concerns, which give a more intimate feel to the atmosphere. Foreigners are heartily welcomed based on that "hospitality gene" I noted earlier and everyone, no matter where they're from, feels more a part of the goings-on rather than just a spectator.  Bikeraceinfo

Make no mistake, France is a beautiful country with spectacular mountains, seacoast, lakes and vineyards along with picturesque villages, castles, cathedrals and more. But Italy has…well, ITALY! Bikeraceinfo.

First there are the fans. It’s impossible to express what the Giro means to Italians. This arterial race is seen as a unifying thread for a country barely 150 years old.  Shortlist(World's toughest race)

Then there are the riders. Watch the Giro and you’d assume they were stark, raving pazzo. The 21 stages in 23 days comprise gruelling mountainous climbs, sprint-inducing flats and city-based time trials, all of which add up to a distance of 2,177 miles – roughly the equivalent of London to Damascus. The Tour de France may be more famous, but he Giro makes it look like freewheeling.
“It used to be known as the riders’ tour,” says Cavendish, “but it’s recently become so hard. It’s so, so hard.”

“Over the years the stages have got more and more extreme,” adds David Brailsford, general manager of Team Sky and stupendously successful performance director of British Cycling. “The climbs in Italy are quite different from France. They are steeper, harder. So it’sa tough race.” Shortlist.

Much better at the Giro. We have our own chef, but every once in a while, they don't let him in the hotel kitchen. If you're going to be stuck with hotel food, much better to be stuck in Italy. ... We eat so much, it's a pretty big portion of our lives." ESPN (Leipheimer interview)

"There are great crowds at the Giro -- every little village is decorated in pink. But the race goes to sleep at night. The Tour is like Las Vegas. A lot of electricity. It never sleeps." ESPN (Leipheimer)

"The Giro is harder. There are some massively long stages, and this year, a time trial that's 60 K." ESPN (Rogers)

"Some might argue this, but I feel some traditions are a bit stronger in the Giro. There will still be stages where the townspeople make cookies or hand out ice cream. Everyone stops and eats a ton, then gets back on the bike and starts racing again as if that were normal." ESPN (Vande Velde)

"It's (food) paradise at the Giro ... much better and healthier than at the Tour. Most of the hotels are small, family-run places with modest rooms and absolutely crazy-good restaurant." ESPN (Hampsten)

(Food) "Better in Italy. There's a tradition that when a local rider passes through town, their family will prepare dolce or some dessert and everyone will stop and have a bite." [Note: Phinney admits some bias, as he and his family lived outside Venice for several years."  ESPN (Phinney)

"The Tour has become so much more global. Talent will win out in any bike race, but none so much as the Tour. In Italy, the Giro is the race that gets the biggest PR, and as a good Italian rider, you're always going to focus on that first. Once you've mastered that skill set, then you go on and try to win the Tour." ESPN (Phinney)

You never have to worry about getting good pasta in the hotels! The [Tour] organization has made efforts to improve the level of hotels and food, but there are a few times during the race when you have an absolutely miserable experience." ESPN (Julich)

"No one uses the Tour for 'training.' The stress in the race is second to none because there is so much at stake. Winning a stage or taking the pink jersey in the Giro looks good on your résumé, but a stage win or even one day wearing the yellow jersey in the Tour can change your career forever. There is no other race in the world where a good result is worth more." ESPN (Julich)

Recalculating Italian and British GDP

Italy and Britain recalculate GDP to include sex trade and drugs.

Italian officials have not yet released their estimates on drug and sex trade, but treasury officials in that country told The Economist that its effects "will be negligible" and tracking their impact is "a difficult business."

I've heard over the years that the black market in Italy represents anywhere between 35% and 50% of GDP.

CNN asks if the U.S. should do the same.

The Economist:

"After finishing the game, the players had to fill in a form that asked their age and the part of Germany where they had lived in different decades. The authors found that, on average, those who had East German roots cheated twice as much as those who had grown up in West Germany under capitalism. They also looked at how much time people had spent in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The longer the participants had been exposed to socialism, the greater the likelihood that they would claim improbable numbers of high rolls.

The study reveals nothing about the nature of the link between socialism and dishonesty. It might be a function of the relative poverty of East Germans, for example. All the same, when it comes to ethics, a capitalist upbringing appears to trump a socialist one."

No shit.

Two Derp Articles

A few days ago we were having a laugh over whether an article in Rolling Stone titled 'The 5 Most Dangerous Guns in America" is the worst on the Internet.

UN Funded Hate

It's rather disgusting that through UNRWA, Canada funds this camp of hate. What's frightening is they dress up their hate in code words and lingo. These people are teaching their kids to waste their lives into something that will never happen. Sad. Just so very sad.

How can peace ever happen when the kids are already indoctrinated at such a young age? That's why it's easy to laugh at 'peace talks.' There will never be peace. Not until the Jews 'are thrown into the sea.' The mindset is already cemented before it starts.

Australia Repeals 'Desttuctive' Carbon Tax

From WSJ:

The former Labor government, while introducing a price on carbon, said the move would help slash emissions by 160 million metric tons by 2020. It offered voters billions of dollars in compensation through tax breaks and welfare payments for increased costs stemming from one of the most dramatic reforms ever attempted in the energy-reliant economy.

Sound familiar? Typical left-wing schemes that say 'hey, we know it will hurt the economy but look at all the goodies and because environment!' When your idea stinks dress it up with 'free shit' and bull shit.

But after the global financial crisis took hold in 2008, followed by the end of a decadelong mining boom in 2012 that slowed growth and employment in the A$1.5 trillion (US$1.4 trillion) economy, Australian voters turned against climate laws—recognized by the International Energy Agency as model legislation for developed countries—blaming them for rising energy bills and living costs.

Yet Quebec and the Trudeau Liberals will repeat the same mistake! It's outrageous they could be so reckless. Canada is an energy dependent economy.

"Today the tax that you voted to get rid of is finally gone, a useless destructive tax which damaged jobs, which hurt families' cost of living and which didn't actually help the environment is finally gone," a jubilant Mr. Abbott told voters in a news conference after the Senate's decision.

Labor and Green opponents of the government said the repeal would make the country an international "pariah" on efforts to combat climate change.

"This is a fundamental moment in Australia's history. We are about to devastate the future of this country," said Labor Senator Lisa Singh in an impassioned speech warning the government that climate warming would impact most on future generations.

Nonsense. Climate policy based on flimsy and questionable premises is what will destroy the future of any economy. Fear-mongering is all they got.

Besides, hasn't she heard? Harper has made Canada a pariah for his skepticism on climate change first.

Question is. How will progressives in Australia react? They can be a rather hyper bunch.

Dinner And Curiosity Is Obama's Bag

"President Obama had just disembarked from Air Force One and was still on the tarmac in Rome when he turned to his host, John R. Phillips, the American ambassador to Italy, with an unexpected request: How about a dinner party tomorrow night?

Over the next 24 hours, the startled Mr. Phillips and his wife, the former Obama aide Linda Douglass, scrambled to gather some of Italy’s intellettuali.

The architect Renzo Piano flew in from Genoa. The particle physicist Fabiola Gianotti arrived from Geneva. John Elkann, the chairman of Fiat and an owner of the Italian soccer club Juventus, came, too, as did his sister, Ginevra, a film director. Over a 2006 Brunello, grilled rib-eye and three pasta dishes — cacio e pepe, all’arrabbiata and Bolognese — at Villa Taverna, the 15th-century manor that serves as the ambassador’s residence, the group talked until close to midnight about “the importance of understanding science, the future of the universe, how sports brings people together, and many other things,” Ms. Douglass said."

Yet he kept pronouncing Juventus, 'Jew-Ventus.'

Other than that, all is well.

French (And Quebec) Socialist Economics

"The ban on free shipping was passed last year by France's rulingSocialist Party, but only recently went into effect. The new ruleis actually an amendment to a 32-year-old French law that tightlyregulates book prices.
The new requirement applies to all online book retailers but has been called the anti-Amazon bill because Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti has singled out the company in the past.
In January 2004, the French Booksellers Union took Amazon to court for offering free delivery and the high court in Versailles ruled in the union's favor. The court told Amazon to either starts charging shipping or face a daily fine of 1,000 euros. Amazon stuck it to the union and decided to incur the fine rather than charge its French customers more."

It's unbelievable really.

Amazon is doing absolutely nothing wrong and is in its rights to not charge shipping. But you can't have that when socialists are around to fuck consumers up the ass for some bull shit "cultural" excuse. It's all about control with these evil sons of bitches. When they're not murdering, they're destroying economies and attacking businesses like mobsters bust up small business owners.

I just found out that here in Quebec, the government now compels private daycares to buy wipes for parents. What's next? Diapers? Cap what we can charge parents? Naturally, I wasn't consulted. Some bureaucrat comes up with the idea through fiat and has the state back it up with threats of fines (or in my case, revocation of a permit) just like a defunct banana republic. Then people wonder why I hold no respect for these folks. The whole system they have designed ensures people will never become true successes. Where they can take over industries, they will cap success.

It's how they roll.

World Cup: Germany And Argentina Meet For A Third Time

Alright, awright. Since you're all clamoring for my opinion on the World Cup final I'll give it you.

It's been an interesting World Cup to say the least for a number of reasons. Though it feels like many goals have been scored, mostly because Germany has distorted perception in two matches where they scored four and seven goals, the average goal per game is 2.69. In 20 World Cups, it's the ninth worst total but it's one of the highest since 1986 and the best since 1998.

The officiating, in my view, was wildly inconsistent. Some may say this is the case in all World Cups. Perhaps. But it's been a little more than usual in this one. I think the sport would save a lot of needless headaches if they'd take a progressive and enlightened approach to technology. If sports like baseball rooted in conservative tradition can open itself up to replay, so can soccer. Man, if a goal is scored but erroneously over turned by an offside, then a manager should be able to challenge it not unlike a football coach in the CFL or NFL.

The arrival of the Americans. I think this was America's coming of age party. This time around the United States made their mark in letting other countries know they now come to win. Sure, they only won one game but I noticed a sense of belief that may not have been there in the past. They keep growing with each passing World Cup. All they need to do is learn to play with a little more patient, learn to know when to let the ball do the running, and mature tactically. That will come.

Canada, dear me, you have a lot of work to do if you're to ever dream of rivaling USA soccer. And it's going to get worse before it gets better. I have zero faith in the Canadian Soccer Association in its current form to make Canada a viable soccer nation capable of competing at an elite level necessary to qualify for a World Cup. The fact that our talent consistently opt to play for other nation's is worrisome as it is a total indictment of Soccer Canada. I've been railing about this since the 1990s yet I see absolutely no progress.

But enough about that.

Sunday's final between Argentina and Germany.

There's some back story here. This will be the third time these two sides meet in a final with each splitting a win. This will be a rubber match of sorts.

Of the two so far, Germany has been the more impressive though I'd be very careful in basing any opinions solely based on the semi-final against Brazil. That was an outlier.  In addition, they have looked out of form in a couple of games, but overall they've played with more confidence than Argentina although the latter have definitely grown more so as the tournament progressed.

At the moment, Germany has three things going for it: Its midfield and attack is playing in unison and at an optimum pace. Its goal tending under Neuer outstanding. And Low's substitutions have been solid.

However, there's a weakness.

The defense. Though capable and well-organized, it lacks mobility. If there's one thing Argentina can do is exploit this with their speed. We've seen how vulnerable the German defense is under pressure from teams like Ghana and Algeria.

Speaking of defense, Argentina's strengths coming into the tournament was its offense and stacked midfield while experts felt its defense was the weakest link. Ironically, it's been the defense that's carried Argentina as they're playing a very Italianesque style at the moment - as are the Germans for what its worth. Both sides have been ruthlessly efficient in their approach to the games which is a force and defining characteristic of Italian soccer as ESPN noted:

"Forza Deutschland!

In case you haven't noticed, Germany have become the new Italy -- right before your narcoleptic eyes. Like the Azzurri did so brilliantly en route to winning five World Cups, Joachim Low's boys have mastered the art of sucking the air out of a game once they've taken the lead. It may be mind-numbingly tedious to watch, but it's ruthlessly effective, as France found out Friday."

Italy has four titles and not five. Inexcusable that a sports site blessed with all the resources ESPN possesses they would make such an error. But the overall point remains valid.

Like Germany, Argentina has excellent goal keeping with Romero. Should they go to penalty kicks (shoot-out) it will be one for the keepers. Above all, they have the one major Ace in their pocket and that comes in the form of Lionel Messi. There is no bigger game breaker in this final.

Very hard call since it's a one-off. But one can give the edge to Germany and it wouldn't raise an argument from me.

If Argentina's defense holds up like it has, Germany will not have an easy go of things especially if Argentina decides to notch up the physical aspect of the game. As well, Messi can make things, well, messy up front and depending on the formation Sabella uses, Mascherano and di Maria (if it) can also exploit Germany's slow pace. Once penetrated, however, they will have to contend with Neuer and this will take a special moment to pierce him. But that will only happen if Argentina forwards - Messi, Higuain, Palacio and Lavezzi - vastly improve from their last showing against The Netherlands.

Germany has to stay true to its identity, remain poised as they're apt to do and impose, be direct and execute. Very simple for them. This is how they either grind out wins or pummel opponents. A team with the likes of  Ozil, Kroos, Khdeira, Lahm (who has excelled at right back) and Schweinsteiger can easily carry out such objectives. The latter four may be asked to shadow Messi by committee depending where he roams on the pitch Keep Messi away from the 18 meter box where he's most deadly I say. The task may be made a tad easier if the influential Di Maria doesn't start. The Dutch did a fine job of isolating Messi in the semi-final.

Sorry if this seems scattered. Just did a small 21k bike ride and 5k run training for a race in September. I'm a little under the gun especially not having slept all that well in the last two nights.

****

As for shoot-outs, while both teams have great keepers, Germany's pedigree in penalty kicks is spot on - excuse the pun.

Germany has never lost in shoot-out in four encounters while Argentina is not too shabby at 4-1.

Fall of The West Reason 595968688: Politicizing Life Art Of The Left

"We treat nudity and sex in America as bad and dirty. Yet, we glorify scum like for hunting and killing animals"

Eat shit you piece of lard Dickinson. Fuck you deep within your loins you shameless asshole.

The left's new fascination is destroying people's lives for hunting.

I can't say how in how many ways how much I loathe progressives.

They're a bunch of gullible, meddlesome, ignorant hacks who politicize everything. I just don't get how they can take something personal and turn into politics.

How does this ruin us as a people? Oh, let me count the ways. For example, companies are scared witless of any sort of bad publicity and in this day and age a lot of moronic people on the 'I'm a victim so check your male privilege, don't offend my soft sensibilities' have access to very big thingy's like the Internet.

L'Oreal offered a contract to a 17 year-old Belgian only to revoke because hunting.

Hunting is LEGAL!

Everyone's lost their fricken minds.

Wednesday Night Mood

Let's set the mood shall we?

World Cup: Familiar Foes In Finals

Much had been made coming into the World Cup that perhaps a new soccer champion outside the traditional giants would be crowned.

I myself considered Belgium, Chile and Colombia dark horses to go deep. Alas, only Belgium managed to get to the Quarter-finals - which is a great feat for a program that has rebuilt itself.

The USA also showed they're on a good trajectory. True, they failed to make it past the Round of 16, but this is a solid soccer team. The Americans have arrived.

In fact, it was a strong showing for Concacaf in my opinion with Costa Rica having reached the Quarters only to lose to Holland on penalties. Mexico were minutes away from a quarter-final spot before the same Dutch team pulled a victory from nowhere.

But none of this changed the fact that in the final four there were traditional soccer powers with three of the four having won the World Cup multiple times. Holland having reached the finals three times without a win leaving them with the tag of being the Buffalo Bills/Minnesota Vikings of soccer.

The final will feature Argentina and Germany. Two sides who have met in the finals twice before with Argentina having won in 1986 and Germany in 1990. Now they will meet for a whopping third time.

A repeat final between two countries has only happened once before and it involved, incidentally, two other mighty soccer countries with Brazil and Italy (in 1970 and 1994 with Brazil winning both times).

So once again, Soccernomics prediction that the traditional powers will recede and give way to the likes of Iraq (who are non-existent at the moment in that they're nowhere near ready to challenge) will have to wait still some more.

Consider this.

There have been 20 World Cups since 1930. This means there have been 40 spots in the finals. 26 of those have been occupied by Germany (8), Brazil (7), Italy (6), Argentina (5). This translates into a WC final have one of those four countries in the finals 65% of the time.

When you add two other champions - Uruguay and France - who have been to a final more than once it shoots up to 30 spots taken up by six countries or 75%.

Add The Netherlands who have been to three finals (without winning a title) and now we're at 33 of 40 and seven countries. Hungary was a super power between the 1930s and 1950s and like the Dutch failed to register a title in two finals. 35 of 40 with eight countries. Same with Czechoslovakia two finals no wins. 37 of 40; nine countries.

The remaining three spots go to England, Spain, Sweden.

12 countries have been to a final.

There are currently 209 member associations in FIFA.

Just 12 (6%) have made it to a final.

They (the Big Four) represent 2% of FIFA but own 65% of the finals appearances.

Remarkable statistic.
